Job Summary

The church musician provides music for the weekly Sunday worship service; and encourages congregational participation in hymn singing, both traditional and contemporary, and provides opportunities for those wishing to participate in music fellowship. This will require approximately six to eight hours a week. The remuneration will be approximately $10,000 a calendar year.

Qualifications

The church musician will have:

Competence on piano, familiarity with the organ would be a asset.
Versatility in a range of musical styles.
Interest in forming a choir.
The ability to relate well to others, to work cooperatively with clergy, staff and volunteers, and to function in the role with emotional maturity and sound judgment.
Demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to integrate theory and practice, and an understanding of and commitment to the church's music ministry.
Satisfactory references and a current police record check.

Duties and Responsibilities

The church musician will:

In consultation with the minister, select, organize, and conduct music for worship during regular and special services throughout the church year.
Lead and accompany congregational hymns and other set pieces.
Meet monthly with Worship Committee/Minister.
