Our History
|
Knox Presbyterian Church was started as a Sunday School on Stanley
Avenue (Spring Ridge District) in 1891 by the Christian Endeavour
Society of the Young People of First Presbyterian Church, now First
Metropolitan United Church. |
Knox Church became associated with St. Aidan's (now St. Aidan's
United) in 1903 and St. Columba (now Oak Bay United) in 1904 to
form one augmented mission field. |
In 1909 Knox Church separated from these groups and became a
separate charge, having paid off the mortgage on its property and
called its first full-time minister. |
The Church building on Stanley Avenue was vacated in 1960 and
the congregation moved to its present location. |
In 1990 a deliberately set fire caused extensive interior damage
to our building. Instead of the congregation moving apart,
everyone stayed together to make the church work again and in 1991
we celebrated our 100th anniversary. |
Today we are a congregation of approximately 140 families from
many ethnic backgrounds. |
